Seeking advice: Wynwood Kitchen vs Michy with a consideration of Sra Martinez thrown in

Hi - I will be in Miami at the end of April with 2 girlfriends. I am debating between Wynwood Kitchen and Michy's, but also considering Sra Martinez. My initial inclination is to pick Wynwood for Saturday night and then Sra Martinez for Sunday. That way, we will get to see the Wynwood District and also the Design District. I know I could do Michy's on Sat night and then Michael's Genuine on Sunday and accomplish the same destinations; however, I have already been to Michael's. Any comments, ideas or suggestions would be welcome.

Finally (as an off topic related indulgence) can anyone clarify whether the Betsey is on or off the beach? Either way, does it have bar service at the beach...there, I managed to get it back on topic to food!

Thank you very much in advance.

  1. Betsy hotel is on ocean drive but they do not have bar service on the beach itself

I have not been to wynwood kitchen and am not excited to go from what I have heard about it.

Michy's and Sra Martinez are close foodwise. You could do Michy's on satruday and do the brunch at Martinez on sunday.

    1. I wouldn't bother with Wynwood Kitchen and Bar. The space looks nice, but the food is really lacking. Michy`s is an awesome place with a very diverse menu. Sra.Martinez is my personal favorite and, in my opinion, has the best bar in Miami. Even though both places are by Michelle Bernstein, they each have their own vibe and style. Michy`s is more fun and playful, while Sra.Martinez is more chic and Spanish influenced.

      1. The food was mostly not good when I went to Wynwood Kitchen, and I've not heard from anyone who said they have had a good food experience there. It is a gorgeous place, though, and worth seeing - go and have a drink, particularly if it's second Saturday (Wynwood art walk night).

        1. Wynwood Kitchen was pretty awful when I went. The pork clay pot was OK but everything else was pretty awful and the menu is boring. Drink prices weren't bad but that's no reason to go. I'd steer clear.

If you want to check out Wynwood, go to Joey's. The food is pretty good there and it's real chill. If you're looking for a more fun vibe, I'd do Sra M over Michy's. I think the food is better @ Michy's (and the value) but it's more of a formal (for lack of a better word) type joint. Sra M is a more lively scene. Bar there is tiny but definitely one of my favorites too.

Ok. It seems that the full consensus is to eliminate Wynwood Kitchen. It is too bad that we will not be there on a second Saturday of the month, as that seems like a really nice opportunity to check out Wynwood. I will look up Joey's.

Thanks to all and of course, any additional suggestions are welcome. I have switched Saturday night to Sra Martinez.

If you still want to check out Wynwood, breakfast at Morgan's would be a pretty good choice. Midtown Miami is just north of there and has several good food options -- Sugarcane, Mercadito, Gigi, Sakaya, Sustain, etc.

Ate at Wynwood Kitchen and Bar twice in the past two weeks by fate and enjoyed both experiences. I ate lightly but well, with salads, sandwiches, and fine Brooklyn Lager on tap. Service was fine and the atmosphere cool. Most interesting was that a few of my art mates prefer it hands down to Gigi which surprised me.

Artists are generally contrarians by nature. They're also not to be trusted for their taste in food. Being "starving" and all, they're usually not so choosy.

At least you didn't stereotype Frod.

There is a new chef at Wynwood and it certainly deserves another try. He is quite talented.

The website continues to list Marco Ferraro as chef and has pretty much the same menu that I recall from when they opened (though Ferraro is also chef at Wish in the Goldman's Tiffany Hotel on South Beach and I don't think he was ever particularly "hands on" at Wynwood Kitchen). So what's new there?

                        1. re: Frodnesor

The new chefs name is Miguel, and I understand that he is cooking and the food has greatly improved. He is also working on a new menu.
