Yuri for sushi in Cary NC
I'm curious to know what others on this board think of Yuri (in the same shopping center as Trader Joe's). We went there with a large group of family--some older, some kids--none of whom is anything close to a sushi expert. I was really pleased with all of it--great food, really friendly service, especially solicitous (but not annoyingly so) of the older folks in the group. About the only misstep I noted was that a few of the veggies in my tempura (part of a huge bento box with sushi) were just a bit underdone. Really liked my nigiri.
Had a very nice dinner at Yuri last night. Fish selection was really good, with a few nice surprises in Japanese snapper, kampachi and live scallop. rice was cooked perfectly and seasoned on the light side, and they served us that grated wasabe that comes frozen in a plastic bag ( much better than paste, not as good as the real thing) which was a nice touch. Roll selection was huge and mostly american in style, with plenty of fried, krab, cream cheese, etc. options and sweet sauces. Well executed for the style, and augmented with very fresh tasting fish.
We only ate from the sushi bar, so I can't comment on the rest of the kitchen, but the sushi side is very good. I found prices to be about what they should for high quality fish, and our server was
great. Looking forward to another visit and will order lots of nigiri next time. Definitely on my short list of sushi restaurants.
Hmm, I'm not a sushi expert but I did stop by Yuri for lunch, got the bento box with pork katsu and some California rolls. And was pretty impressed, Yuri is not much to look at from the outside but very modern and clean inside. The bento box was a TON of food! Salad, katsu and a bunch of pieces of nigiri. Nice presentation too with good service. Good stuff, especially in a non-descript plaza location... Friends who are much more picky about their sushi like it too.
