Best Restaurant in State College, PA

We're looking for the best restaurant in State College, PA. If any restaurant is better in Bellefone then please tell me the name.

We have had a few great meals at Spat's when we are in town.

Best chinese may be the "Big Bowl Noodle house" on East college (in basement ) Atmosphere has been compared to a Chinese bus station. It is always full of chinese students.

If this is too scary try the Lebanese place right next door.

If you are looking for upscale, . . . . I eat at home.

If it hasn't been mentioned, the Gamble Mill in Bellefonte has pretty decent food, too. Nothing truly exciting, but they recently added a brewery which cranks out some pretty fine beer.

Kinda really depends on what you are looking for. Generally, when people are looking for "fine dining", Zola's Bistro is the first thing that is suggested. I personally find the restaurant to be a bit overpriced, and underachieving. The wine list is decent, and the appetizers are generally better than the mains.

We do have a fantastic Sichuan restaurant, Chopstick Express, which IMNSHO is the BEST restaurant in State College. Atmosphere is horrible, so if that's important to you, it might not be right.

Nola's pizza is pretty outstanding, too.

I guess it all comes down to what your idea of "best" entails.

Thanks again for your help. I read the previous thread on State College restaurants, so I'm sure we'll come to a great choice when we visit Bellefonte.

I agree that "best" is very subjective. My favorite by far is The Tavern. By no means the best food available, but still good and I just like the old fashioned atmosphere. It's full of very old photos of the town and employs only students. It's an institution that I really enjoy.

State College has few restaurants that have consistent quality or attempt to rise to the level generally considered fine dining. The best is probably Zola New World Bistro www.zolabistro.com.

Most other choices in State College lean toward the casual or ethnic mid-priced style. In Bellefonte, the Gamble Mill Tavern is owned by the same people as Zola, it is pretty decent, but Zola may be a touch more adventurous or upscale in the menu. www.gamblemill.com
