Festivals, food markets in Portugal during June
Hi everybody!
I am taking my mom to Portugal for 10 day trip (June 18-30 2011). We are staying at friends house in Lisbon, but we are planning to visit all top places around Portugal. My mom is huge lover of street festivals, dances, wine tastings etc. and that would be absolutely awesome be there and participate in all those events.
Could anybody please share their experiences and post events during June in Evora, Lisbon, Porto etc.
Thank you very much!
P.S. We are very easygoing people and would love to know some local scouts, who are interested to show us around :)

June is the time of the "Santos Populares" in Portugal & I suggest you Google these 2 words.
You want to be in Porto on / by the river for the celebrations of Sao João (the night of June 22nd) and in Lisbon for Sao Pedro (28 June) . Unfortunately you will miss Santo Antonio (June 13) and the big "marchas". Lot of street food at these occasions, and a very festive ambiance.
Enjoy!›2 Replies -
There's a very large weekly market in the town of Barcelos every Thursday. We went last year and it really is large. It sets up in the main square of the town and they sell everything from clothing to chickens. Lots of typical pottery, cheese, fruit, vegetables - the works. It's great and if you're in the area you should check it out. We stayed overnight in town so we could be there in the morning. Barcelos is north of Porto.
