The new Patricia's on Morris Park Ave
After taking over the store next door, Patricia's has transformed itself into a new upscale version that, I believe, has suffered a loss of soul. Gone are the daily specials and the large choice menu. In its stead is a more limited hard covered version with fewer choices and everything is ala carte. The potato dumpling used to be served with lunch specials on the same plate as the main course. Now it comes in a high sided saucer which makes it difficult to cut. Prices appear to be the same or higher with a bottle of Corona priced at $7.00. Strangely enough the crowd is still there. The room is lovely. Brick walls and tuxedoed white shirted waiters are part of the transformation. The glass allows a peak into the kitchen where I saw someone tossing pizza dough although it wasn't on the menu.

Pizza was on my menu. But agree they could let you know the secondi plate contains the meat and nothing but. We're getting used to the idea that you no longer get a small pasta side but usually there's something else on the plate-a sprig of parsley, a baby carrot, something. Seeing the plate that way is unusual and jarring. It's a neighborhood Italian restaurant, not a famously ala carte place like Peter Lugers.
