Monday lunch near Eliot Hotel?

I know there are tons of restaurants nearby, but somehow I'm drawing a blank!

A friend is visiting from San Francisco, and is staying at the Eliot. I'm meeting her for lunch on Monday - 100% chance of rain predicted. So my requirements are:

1) not too far a walk so we won't be drenched (maybe 5 mins tops)
2) something that's more East coast-sy, that she might not encounter as often in SF
3) like to keep it under $20pp

Initially I thought 94 Mass Ave would be great, but then realizes it's not open for lunch. I checked Towne's menu but it's a bit too pricey.

I suppose we can go to Sel de la Terre, but the few times I've eaten there (plus the Natick and Aquarium branches), I thought the food was only so-so. But those were either dinners or brunches, never had lunch there.

Where else would you recommend?

There's a chance we might go to the MFA, has anyone eaten at the new Courtyard Cafe in the Americas wing?

  1. Petit Robert Bistro would be great.

    1. A recent CH visitor to boston had alot of local CHs offering advice; the CCafe was a no-no.
how about Sonsie on Newb St by Mass Ave? For yrs we have liked it for dinner; good broad menu w/ Amer. regional touches.Cozy elegant atmosphere. Bill Poirier, chef/owner is well respected long-time Boston chef.Service is excellent.

on the current lunch menu, both the clam chowder and the cubano sandwiche are not everywhere type items at SF restnts(though one place, Hog Island Oyster Bar, in the SF Ferry Bldg., does an amazing clam chowder cooked to order.
