Seltzer Truck

Does anyone remember a Seltzer truck in their area? I recall one in the late 70's, but they seem to have vanished.

Sure. Seltzer and flavored soda trucks. They carried the bottles on the sides as well as the back. Nozzles and bottle caps on glass bottles. In fact, I remember an old MAD Magazine cartoon of road bikers swiping Orange Crush bottles off the side of a truck and drinking them on site. We'd use the bottle caps to play skelly (or skells). We also had a few, but still rare, glass bottle milk delivery trucks.

Had delivery through 1984 in New Haven CT from Castle Seltzer, now out of business.

I remember when the streets of Brooklyn were lined wit these trucks.. When I was a kid I worked on a truck with Barry Corman he was a great guy that would sing all day.

I remember these trucks, my husband used to drive one!! One time when he stopped home with the truck for lunch, we each grabbed a bottle of seltzer and had a fight with them. Great fun and the fullfillment of a fantasy of mine, silly I know, but a blast to do!!!

Does Island still exist? I could swear I saw one of the trucks on Park Place by Vanderbilt in Brooklyn a couple of months ago.

I am not sure there are a scant few people still providing Home Delivery. And there is one bottling plant left in Brooklyn. Gomberg Seltzer Works. A very interesting place a real piece of history. This type of seltzer made with Brooklyn water is the best in the world. These new fangled soda makers do not compare..

We used to get it delivered in Providence, old bottles and wooden crates delivered weekly. I think it might still be going on, but I don't live there anymore.
