Help us continue our run of great cheap SF lunches

  • 4

I am new to SF and have met a friend who loves to eat tasty cheap lunches with me. We have so far been to Saigon Sandwich, Lers Ros, Burmese Superstar, and El Farolito, and all have hit the spot. We both work out of Pac Hgts and prefer, generally, not to go too far afield, although we can drive. I have not heard of anywhere we can get a good ramen at lunch, and would love to hear a rec. More generally, though, where should we go for our next few lunches? Bonus points if there is a cheap tasty dessert nearby. Thanks!

  1. have you tried Off the Grid on Fridays at Civic Center? usually 3-4 trucks there a week. There's another one in the U.N. Plaza, but not sure of the day.

Ala Turca is good for a cheap, tasty lunch.

    1. You can try Katana-Ya for some lunch time ramen.

      1. A great spot which is easy to get to from PacHeights is Takara in Japantown. I lived nearby and it was my go-to lunch at least once a week; for $10 (including tax and tip) you got a bento box with soup, salad, three slices of California roll, tempura, and then your choice of teriyaki chicken, pork katsu, or sashimi.

It is the restaurant right behind the hotel entrance and is one of the best deals with great food in J-Town.
