Diner in New Orleans

I am hoping someone can help me with this. My husband and I were in New Orleans the year before Katrina hit and we hit this diner that was there, I think it was right off Canal St. It was 24 hour diner, and I can't think of the name of it for the life of me. We are going back down to New Orleans next week, and we wanted to go to this diner again.

I know, for a fact, that is it not on Bourbon St, but thats about all I know. I would know the name if I heard it.

And since I have some people looking at this, is there really anything in New Orleans that is a can't miss?

Deju Vu Diner is at 400 Dauphine one block from Bourbon. They have 24 hour breakfast, cheap burgers, and a great steak/potato special: $5.99 for an 8-ounce NY Strip and baked potato Tues and Thurs. Nothing fancy, but a great little hole in the wall diner with local character(s) :)

to look up some new places to eat at check out urbanspoon/new orleans, nola.com/dining, and nomenu.com, go to the area- eat out. this site has lots of reviews and you can click on the restaurants websites to look at menus. i like to look at the menus and prices to help decide what to eat. when are you going? what area are you staying in?

not much time for research. since you haven't been to town since before katrina. there's lots going on in the quarter and surrounding areas. 119 restaurants in the french quarter alone! something for every budget and taste. my husband and i enjoy going to several places a day, just eating appetizers at the bar. we find it economical and get alot of tastes in. have fun! it's my favorite place on earth.

I love it there too, we did do some research on neworleansrestaurants.com, I think thats whats it called. Just wanted to get some word of mouth places, since thats usually the best way to go, and ive been on here the last few days looking at other threads. I forgot to mention this in my other post, but I like to look at menus online too, so just in case someone recommends a place but there is nothing on the menu that appeals to me, so thanks for the tips

If you are looking for something diner-ish in the Quarter, I recommend the Camellia Grill's new Quarter location. Great on a cool [or hot] night.

Does Huey's sound familiar? I think that was a 24-hour place. On the business district side of Canal though, not the quarter. Anyway, I think that spot is what is now The Ruby Slipper.

Country Flame? Not open 24 hours but it's my guess.... For can't miss I'd recommend Bon Ton. Check out the menu: http://www.thebontoncafe.com/lunch.html My faves are the house salad with house vinaigrette, crab au gratin and bread pudding. For cheap eats I'd hit Nola Grocery fo poboys. http://www.nolagrocery.com/ You can get a poboy to go and walk to the river to eat in the Spanish Plaza by the Riverwalk. Don't forget the napkins!

Daisy Duke's wasn't open before Katrina.

The only 24 hour diner I can think of is Clover Grill, but it is indeed on Bourbon St. at the corner of Dumaine.

Thank you, but no that wasn't it. I may be wrong about it being open 24 hours. I know the direction it was in, so we might just try to walk over that way and find it.

We are going to the WWII museum, my husband is a huge history nut, and that is actually our first stop when we get there tomorrow.
