Bet that got your attention if you are looking for a challenge. Looking for private room for around 20 people max, walking distance to Astor Place if possible, kind of a semi-wake/shiva. Ideas? For next Saturday 3/26?

I'm sorry for your loss, Susan. A few questions for you:

-- May we assume that you want a staid rather than celebratory restaurant? (Some prefer to celebrate the decedent's life rather than focus on their sorrow.)
-- What is your preferred price range, including tax, tip and any beverages?
-- Do you have any preferred cuisines?
-- Is this for lunch or dinner or something else?

In terms of restaurants with large rooms that can be reserved or rented out, I can think of Jane off the top of my head. They have a downstairs dining room and American food (which may be a good, inoffensive choice for a large group). http://www.ctrnyc.com/CTR/ctr_html/ct...
