Corned Beef Hash

I'm making my first vist to NYC in May and I'm a corned beef hash afficianado from way back, so I'm looking to get some recommendations as to where I can find some really good CBH. I'm staying in the UWS, and considering this is breakfast, would prefer places in that general locale, but willing to go further afield if necessary.

  1. I've tried both the ones at Keen's Steakhouse and at Smith & Wollensky. While both are above decent, I would say that the one at S&W is the one to go for if you can only choose one. Btw, S&W version is made with roast Prime Rib, iirc.

      Neither is open for breakfast.

Make this a lunch destination and get the Hash as S&W Grill. Absolutely fantastic.

      2. Amy Ruth's in Harlem serves it. I haven't had it cause I always get the chicken and waffles ! but I bet it's good. Easy subway trip from UWS.

        1. Try the CBH at McAleer's on Amsterdam, around 80th. Go there every time I'm in town and love it!

          1. Try Good Enough To Eat, which is on the UWS. I have not had their corned beef hash, but the food there is good, and they specialize in breakfast. It's a sweet place.

It's far from my favorite thing on their menu.

            2. Katz's has homemade corned beef hash. I have no idea how good or bad it is. But if their corned beef is any indication, it may not be half bad. Junior's, in Brooklyn, which more than fulfills your willing to travel option, makes pretty good corned beef hash as well. One of the very few good menu items they make at all.

              1. Not UWS but Sarges has great corned beef hash.

                1. re: ESNY

Really? Who knew. I have to try next time I am there.

                  1. re: ESNY

Yep...I agree. Their corned beef hash is very good. They make it themselves. Chunky style. A meal in itself.

                    1. re: mikegre

With the potatoes, the egg and the holendaise sauce, its more than a meal. Its an experience.

                  2. Although the Carnegie Deli has in general declined to the point where it's not worth visiting, the corned beef hash is still excellent.

I'd just note that, superb as the hash is at Keens (and it really really is), I believe it's roast beef, not corned beef (if that matters to the OP).
