Excellent bakery in the Bay Area for my toddler's birthday cake ?

osho Mar 18, 2011 11:13 AM

For our little (chowpup) daughter's 3rd birthday - I 'd like to get a custom cake made with high quality chocolate like Valrhona, etc.

Our daughter loves food of all sorts (English, Thai, Chinese, Italian, Burmese - the list goes on) but I am not sure she will be pleased with Humphrey Slocombe's Secret Breakfast cake. And my wife is not exactly an omnivore.

So, I'm looking for a moist high quality chocolate cake with maybe bitter chocolate, creme fraiche or now that I'm thinking through maybe tiramisu. None of the super-sweet frosting.

Price no object. I am willing to travel - to literally any county in the Bay Area.

Any and all inputs from the community appreciated, as always.

Cheers !

Here's a mention from 2005 of the chocolate cake at Noe Valley Bakery - any recent experiences ?

Tartine Bakery souffle cake or devil's food cake. I assume you are not looking for a bakery that can supply an Elmo photo transfer... :)

That would be a dream, but I don't think that's going to happen ;-)

        Thanks for the recs.

Tiramisu has espresso in it; probably not a great option for a 3 year old, combined with all that sugar.

I'll second the cakes at Schubert's, although I like the Princess cake and other European desserts--it's not famous for chocolate.

For impact, there's nothing like the chocolate tower or any of the chocolate cakes at Delessio's. You could also go with high-quality chocolate cupcakes, including Delessio's, which come in unusual flavors.

Ended up going with the triple chocolate mousse cake at DeLessio's. It was a hit with adults & children alike - served with Strauss Vanilla ice cream.

              Thanks to all !
