Alternatives to Piment Rouge???

Hi Chowhounders

I had planned to meet someone for lunch at L'Actuel but is is closed down. My lunch date suggested Le Piment Rouge next door, but I find it overpriced and average.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a great alternative to my Plan A - L'Actuel?

Thanks for the help.

  1. Taverne Dominion accross the park could be a nice place.

Plaisirs coupable up the street (Peel above ste-Catherine) also

skip plaisirs coupables but i've heard good things about taverne dominion

    2. I agree with the Dominion Square Tavern recos. It's a nice place, great cocktails and the food was fun and delicious. I also agree on your take of Piment Rouge. It has been getting some hype both in the print media and on this board that I don't really get.

      1. L'Actuel has been closed for a while, well over a year.

Le Piment Rouge went through a big renovation late last year and brought in a new group of top chefs from Hong Kong and Shanghai. The recent restaurant reviews I've seen have been quite positive. The dining room is spectacular. When was the last time you tried them? I typically spend about $60 a person including wine for dinner, and around $25 for lunch - not more expensive than other fine dining or high end bistro restaurants in the city. I wouldn't call them overpriced and average.
