Inexpensive place on LES

I'm looking for an inexpensive place for a light, early supper before a 7 PM concert on Eldrige St. near Rivington. Would prefer a place a bit calmer than Katz's. My friend is not at all adventurous about food: he likes American, Italian and Chinese, and nothing spicy. A nice coffee shop would be OK, as long as food is good. Any suggestions? Thanks.

i don't know that i would describe any of those options as much calmer than Katz's (smaller, sure, more atmospheric, sure, but crazy busy and potentially super full? definitely)
