cape me this weekend! oysters, seriously, just oysters!
hey everyone - i am having a mother of a time finding out anything about oyster eating in cape may....a friend is celebrating her 30th birthday this weekend there, and a bunch of us are coming down too. BUT! she is a vegetarian and is also allergic to seafood (thus putting the kibbutz on lots of grilled little lovelies, unless we wait for all of the veg food to be cooked first), so one other reveler and i are itching to slip away and slurp some oysters as often as possible. other than the cape may fish market, is there any sort of takeaway place that would suit our needs? we will have a car, though walking distance from the promenade is very good. a take out resto or fishmarket will definitely be good....
thank you so much! you have no idea how badly i/we are craving oysters. and we don't need the best oyster selection either, just a good fresh place that will shuck them for us (if they don't, tell me and i will bring my knife down).
If you don't mind a little drive. You are only 10 miles from oyster central. About 10 miles up river from cape may is Port Norris. Once the largest packer of oysters on the east coast. Lots of oyster history if you wicki it.
There are about 20 oyster boats still working the delaware river for "delaware salts". There are 4 oyster packing houses and some will sell 1/2 bushels. Call Hillard Bloom Packing. 856.785.0120. If they don't they will know who does sell retail. Also they should know what restaurants and bars to rec.
yes, i know all about, and have nommed plenty, cape may (delaware) salts, which is why i was so bummed that i couldn't find any good information online! thanks, i will certainly call the distributor.
and thank you to maryanne06! i have been to the lobster house but i will definitely look into the other two suggestions. :)
410 Bank Street may serve them, but most likely only in the summertime. Axelsson's Blue Claw and The Lobster House have them year-round. 410 Bank Street is a great restaurant, but I've never been there out-of-season. The Lobster House has both dine-in and take-out. Enjoy!

can't help you with where, but i do have to say that oysters from cape may are some of the best i've had outside the N. California kumamoto zone...no, really- Cape May's are the bomb. If and when you find a place to slurp, particularly one that serves up Cape May's, please post back
