Wd-50 or Degustation?

Which would you choose to take out of towners if you can go to either for dinner this Friday? There will be 4 of us in our mid 30s. My 3 friends are from out of town so I want them to have a good dining experience. We've never had molecular gastronomy but are open minded. Thanks!

Yes, I know. I was referring to Wd-50.

    2. Well, not knowing whether you are interested in experiencing MG - I'd suggest wd-50 either way.

Having been to both, I found Degustation to be underwhelming. wd-50 will probably be a bigger price tag, tho.

      1. One more vote for WD-50. It's just a more exciting experience. Degustation is nice, though I've never really been wowie-zowied.

One caveat would be if you make a rez for WD-50, poll the boards to see if there are any major misses or knockout hits on the menu. As is the case with many more "experimental" restaurants, sometimes there'll be one dish or another that just falls kind flat and should have never left the lab.

My current faves on the menu: Eggs Bennie, Peekytoe, Foie Gras, Cold Chicken, Scallops, Cod, Pork, Lamb.

And the cocktails... oh, the cocktails. Brilliant.

Current misses, IMHO: Shrimp "Spaghetti", Cuttlefish / Cashew

The tasting menu could be fun, though with four people - assuming you're all the sharing-of-food types - you'd wind up tasting nearly as much going a la carte, especially if you went for an "extended" meal (two apps, one entree, dessert each) - which would still cost less than the tasting.

        1. Thank you for the response! I went ahead and confirmed reservation with WD-50 for tomorrow night. Looking forward to my 1st MG experience.

@sgordon - thanks for the menu recommendations!

          1. i see you've already decided, but will put my .02 in anyway.

i love both places. both are fairly innovative. Degustation might be a problem for 4 people, unless you can get a corner of the bar guaranteed - 4 people sitting in a line isn't the most social set-up.
pricewise they are in completely different leagues
