What to do with fresh Hearts of Palm?

I received 1/2 lb of fresh hearts of palm and haven't any idea what to do with it. I tried it grilled with local butter and it was delicious but . . . I don't have a grill :(

  1. slice it into a salad (or have it as a salad all by itself)

or send it my way -- I'll see if I can find a way to get rid of it for you. :)

    1. Sauteed with onions, garlic, shrimp and just a tiny bit of pork for flavor, they make a terrific filling for fresh spring rolls. Googling lumpiang ubod will give you plenty of ideas. Try substituting them for water chestnuts in a stir fry. You could bread them and create a substitute for french fries and dip them in a spicy mayo. They're also surprisingly good with cheese either in a salad or a gratin.

        1. Don't know if you're the sort to deep fry, but the current issue of Saveur has a recipe for hearts of palm fries that calls for fresh ones. Looks delicious to me.

That looks great...I'll try it with the canned ones first.

          2. I'm jealous. Things I'd try with fresh ones:

Core and fill, sort of like California rolls. The light crunch would be awesome with a braised meat.

Another variation of the vehicle would be to just slice diagonally and top it off as an appetizer.
