TIps for Going to Serendipity?

benn2009 Mar 16, 2011 06:26 PM

I know it is extremely touristy to want to go there, but I just want to say I've tried it, and how terrible could a frozen hot chocolate taste? But it certainly isn't worth an hour and a half wait, which is what I was told this past weekend!

Anyone have any tips on when they are less busy? I knew a Saturday afternoon would probably be a bad idea, but wasn't sure if the middle of a weekday would be any better.

just so you know, they do take reservations but you have to order a full meal. if you really want to go and avoid the long wait, make a reservation, have a burger and then move on to dessert.

otherwise, i was there once mid-day during the week and it was nearly empty.

I tried to go there in the evening and it was a bit of a wait, so I went back a few days later and lined up before it opened.

The have these huge menus and when the waiter took our order, we must have a look in our eyes because he said, "Let me guess: two frozen hot chocolates." The food at the other tables looked decent, though.

that's being generous. i've only had a burger there once, but was with a large group and nothing looked better than ok.

I would go off hours and only have the frozen hot chocolate, other than that, nothing on the menu is worth it.

As easy as it would make it to go if we went for a meal and then got dessert since we could make a reservation, you're right that the menu doesn't seem worth it. I'll have to try it on a weekday!
