The Uptown Diner

How does this place stay in business? I had a tuna melt there for lunch today and it was horrible. Reminded me of decades ago when my brother used to switch labels on cat food and tuna fish to gross me out when I made a sandwich.

Plus, the place was a messy disaster. I should have walked. Who owns / runs this place?

They stay in business because people who know better order tuna melts there :)

I think the Soho place across the parking lot should stay open later. Nothing worth a trip, but much better hangover food.

I've been there several times (4-5) for breakfast and the eggs are always vastly underdone, the hashbrowns are still crunchy in the middle, and the toast/english muffins are barely toasted. I'm done with the place.

I'm going to show a little love for the place. Every once in a while I get a hankerin' for a ginormous breakfast and the Veggie Tex Mex or the Cajun Breakfast are what I usually give in to. These days, I go for the half order but there was a time when I was younger where a full order was what I needed.

The Keys falls into the HUH??? category as well. That place is gross.

Which Key's? The original on Raymond? They do vary quite a bit.

The Keys are all owned and operated by different people. All members of the same extended family, apparently, but different people nonetheless. I won't go to the Key's on Raymond. It's pretty bad. But the Key's in Minneapolis (in the W) and the Key's in St. Paul (Robert St. though I haven't been in awhile) are respectable if you just want a basic breakfast. No special sourcing or anything like that.

One thing keeps the Diner afloat over the decades:
          . Thursday-Sunday: Open 24 Hours

The late night crowd will always need a place to keep the hangovers at bay with constantly-refilled coffee and Tabasco sauce for their hashbrowns. That's what this place is, no more no less.
