2 American's, an Italian a German and a Brit walk into a restaurant...

But it's got to be near Palmdale or LAX due to where we're working. We are easy cusine wise to please due to lots of travel and many flavors enjoyed but picky due to quality, value and service (not in that order necessarily) so...where to go for food. We've got three nights at LAX (probably Sheraton) and four at Palmdale (still arguing on that hotel) for business in a week from right now.

Where to dine? Why? Chains? Forget about it.... gimme something local and REALLY GOOD. All of us are of the thought that if it's not really good, may as well eat at McD's or PizzaHut etc. Booze isn't the issue for our purposes.

  1. I think you'll find much better food and many more choices generally at the LAX end of your destinations over Palmdale. I'll leave Palmdale to others, but as for LAX, you can find good Thai food close by at Ayara Thai, and good American food at Truxton's American Bistro. Not too far for some wonderful diner food (especially the fried chicken, the wings and waffle combination and the patty melt) at Pann's (along with the classic - and almost gone from the world - googie architecture of the place).

    Pann's Restaurant & Coffee Shop
6710 La Tijera Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045

    Ayara Thai Cuisine
    6245 W 87th St, Los Angeles, CA 90045

    Truxton's American Bistro
8611 Truxton Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90045

Another yes to Pann's. LA's best diner. Wonderful 1950's architecture and a great patty melt. Minutes from LAX. A menu with something for everyone.

    2. Near LAX is Venice (A short cab ride), and all the restaurants on Abbot Kinney, many of them among the best restaurants in LA. Definitely Gjelina and Joe's for dinner. Both are amazing, and meet all your standards. In Marina del Rey, there's Cafe del Rey, also close to LAX

Palmdale will prove challenging -- very.

also pretty close is Culver City via 405 (Culver is a good exit) or the back way through La Cienega. With Fraiche, Ford's Filling station, Akasha ect ect..

and the conservatory for coffee and tea. Good stuff.

Ramen Mottainai is a short 10-15 minute drive in lunch traffic as well the other direction in Gardena.

        1. A couple of Antelope Valley suggestions, with the caveat that it's been a while.

Mi Durango on 10th West and Ave L-12 for Cal-Mex.
          DD's Fish Fry on Palmdale Blvd between 20th E and 25th E
Lemon Leaf (pizza good) on Lancaster Blvd between Sierra Hwy and 10th W, nearish the Metrolink station.
Piccola Trattoria in Santa Clarita on Sierra Hwy off Soledad Canyon
Le Chene in Agua Dulce, but be aware they serve the food in their own eccentric, non-standard, sometimes frustrating way.
