kosher (non-dairy) delis in LA with good pastries, desserts, baked goods

Deli folks, please help me out. I have sweet little friend who cannot have any dairy at all (eggs are okay) She loves any kind of baked goods, (cookies, doughnuts, all that) but 99% of those contain a dairy product of some kind. I want to stock up on goodies for her. Packaged type things are great, and fresh ones too. I was hoping that some of the kosher delis around town might have a decent selection of that kind of thing. Any ideas?

You might just want to leave a "pointer post" to this one over on the Kosher board. That will help widen your audience: http://chowhound.chow.com/boards/28

That said you might check out Western Kosher Market at 444 N Fairfax (assuming they are still at that address and still in business?) for what you are seeking.

One other thought. Schwartz Bakery: http://www.schwartzbakeryla.com/

If it's a deli you want, then Pico Kosher Deli (on Pico) is the place for you. They're really the best.

For kosher pastries and bakery goodies, there are a lot of kosher bakeries in LA that have fantastic non-dairy desserts. Schwartz bakery has 3 locations- Pico, Fairfax Ave and Beverly Blvd just west of La Brea. Eilat has 2 locations on Fairfax and another on Pico. That's another good one. There's Elat pastry and Le Palais, both on Pico. They;re more Persian oriented but they will have what you are looking for.

If it's pre-packaged stuff, then the aforementioned Western Kosher on Fairfax carries many items. La Brea Market at the corner of La Brea and Oakwood in LA has a lot, and then there's Elat market and Glatt market on Pico that also carry prepackaged cookies etc.

I should warn you, however, that after this week, as we approach Passover, the selection in these stores will become diminished as the stores rush to get rid of their inventory before the holiday. This week, however, with Purim at the end of the week, you won't lack for selection!

Delice Bakery on Pico has a great selection of parve (non dairy) desserts. They keep the dairy pastries in a different section than the non dairy items.

None of LA's few genuinely kosher (as opposed to kosher-style) delis that I know of carry a meaningful selection of baked goods. However, you can find what you're looking for at any of the many kosher bakeries and supermarkets in town, most notably in the Pico-Robertson and Fairfax areas. Among the kosher bakeries, I'd recommend Delice; among the supermarkets, I'd recommend Glatt Mart (located on Pico about one and a half blocks east of Robertson). I'd steer clear of Elat Market (right next door to the west of Glatt Mart), which is almost always a claustrophobic mob scene.

HIDDEN GEM: Pink Orchid, located on Westwood Blvd., is an outstanding Persian bakery that claims most of its cakes and pastries are non-dairy. It is not a kosher establishment, but that doesn't seem to be a mandatory requirement here.
