How to add restaurants while posting - specific reference to italy
Participants on Italy Board are having a little bit of difficulty adding restaurants while in the midst of a post. How does one do it?
I tried to do this today and the link didnt appear for several minutes.
It also didnt appear in a search, so I went ahead and added a new restaurant entry.
tOnly when I went back to edit my entry to add the link did the original link/restaurant entry appear, so I had to go back in and delete the duplicate restuarant entry and the duplicate link.
How much of an address should be included when adding a restaurant while posting (as opposed to direct entry on the Restaurant data entry page)? the entire street address or just, (in the case of Italy) Name of City,IT?
Is there a significant time lag issue people should understand?

I haven't tried on the Italy board, but on other boards, it will take a few minutes for the link to appear in the post. The search index seems to be updated on a cycle of 30 mins or longer, so don't expect something to appear in search immediately.
When I add a record to the database from within a post, once I hit the button, the new record opens in a new tab in Firefox in edit mode. I add as much info as I have time or knowledge at that time rather than trying to go back some other time to edit and save it.
What I do is add the url of the new record to my post in progress, just in case the link never materializes. This also saves the page url in case you want to add more info before the record can be found in the search index. Here's an example,

Thanks Melanie - I will have to experiment some more. I didnt find that a new window opened. (Explorer 8) - should it have?? Also, the new record did not come up right away in the Restaurant database - that differs from my experience when I add restaurants directly to that database rather than through a post.
How much of an address do you add in that first two box entry screen - just the city/state or the street address too?
we are getting good particpation and people are trying to add and link restaurants but its not that easy.

I'm not up to date with IE, so haven't used it for a long time. If a new record page doesn't pop up, another way to access it might be via where the link shows in the "manage links" field. When I enter a new record via a post, it will show in the field before I hit the "post my reply" button even though it disappears once the message is posted. In firefox, I can hover over the new record name to capture the url.
I add the street address in the first two box entry screen. There is a filter for duplicates, which I noted/buried in the other thread about searching, that matches on street address. So it's important to use the street address to avoid making duplicate records.
Agreed that it's not easy!
