Saw an ad for it in this weeks Jewish Week, and the website lists a place in Great Neck. Has anyone been and can give any thoughts?
I was in there for a burger yesterday and asked about www.koshergyro.com. He gave me a sample of the pareve white sauce. It didn't seem to have too much taste.
I prefer shawarma.
It is the website for Town Deli in Great Neck. There is no shawarma or gyro on the menu.http://www.koshergyro.com/menu.html
There is gyro on the menu - listed on the first page. I did not see shawarma. My question still stands - has anyone tried the gyro, and can they give any thoughts? People have raved about gyros which I have never seen kosher before.
Gyro is a poor-man's shawarma, imo. It's just ground up lamb/turkey and spices (oregano, garlic, etc.) on a spit. It's lower quality meat than shawarma.
It's usually served with a yogurt sauce/tzatziki which is really what differentiates it.
