Four and Twenty Blackbirds pies

Any pie recommendations from here? The blackbottom oatmeal sounds fab, as does the caramel apple. I usually get my pies from First Prize (love the s'mores) but this is actually much closer to home.

  1. I had the caramel apple yesterday--it's very good. I've had the salty honey, but it was so sweet it gave me heart palpitations (my friend who is less sugar sensitive loved it).

    1. As I'm more of a cake person than pie person, I've only tried two of their slices so far. Their caramel apple was very good but the crust of the farmers cheese was pretty undercooked. Hopefully that was an aberration. The blackbottom oatmeal does sound great.

      1. Did you wind up trying the blackbottom oatmeal pie? I had a slice a while back and I thought it was awful and it didn't make sense to me texture or flavor-wise. I'm just curious if anyone likes it.

Their salted honey pie is mind searingly sweet and makes me gag. Not too mention the tired "salted" trope. (Let's make something crazy sweet then try to balance it with salt, bleh)

My favorite pies there are the salted caramel apple (which is always very beautiful)

        and the chocolate pecan.

I am sure I will get blasted but I think they are completely overrated. Du Jour has the best baked goods in that area in my opinion. That said, I love their salted caramel apple.

You wouldn't get blasted by me ;) out of 10 or so flavors I've tried, I think only a few are good to great, the rest were meh/problematic to gag worthy. They're pretty pricey too.

I liked it (though my tolerance for sweets only allowed two smaller-than-average bites).

They had, on a recent visit, a grapefruit curd pie w. campari that i really enjoyed, complex and very grape-fruity with a ton of very forward bitterness.

its crazy expensive, yes, but i like what they do.

It was the chewy granola bar texture and flakes that invaded my teeth and clung to the sides that turned me off, combined with the very straight forward oatmeal flavor. Not intolerable, but I didn't want to continue after the first bite.
