Need a cool Hole-in-the-Wall.
I want to take my girlfriend to a unique restaurant in Dallas. Live at Oak Lawn and Lemmon. Think Lee Harvey's type atmosphere not a chain or something on the beaten path. Not restricted by price or cuisine.

What about The Wild Turkey @ 35 & Walnut Hill? The have a big menu, they have great service, they pour a stiff drink. You can sit on the patio and do some AMAZING people watching over there. The menu has a few gems. White wings, The sausage sandwich is good & they have some of the best onion rings in town.

alternatively, Seafood Shack on Webb Chapel south of Forest. Sort of a Mexican style seafood... shack, I guess. They have daily specials - Mondays are ceviche tostadas, Wednesday for spicy boiled crab or shrimp. Great shrimp or fish flautas also.

Was in the neighborhood of the Seafood Shack today around lunch as I don't get overthere very often and remembered this thread. Had the shrip tostado and man it was tasy. Cool spot also. I sat at the bar and watched the food come out and there was alot great looking stuff. Anyone have any other suggestion for the Shack? Caldo de Camarones look great too.

I typically like the flautas quite a lot - they're fried to deep golden brown, crispy/crunchy perfection. Not oily at all. However, I went yesterday, and they were just... good. Not quite as perfectly fried as the other 5 times I've eaten them. Hope they're not slipping!
The cocktels are good too.

I had the Wednesday Shack special tonight , lb. of spiced shrimp w/ corn on the cob, small red potatoes. Shrimp are too many/ small to peel, so I bucked up and ate the shells, too, just not the tails. Tasty sauce, they should serve bread to sop it up. It was more than I could eat.
Tuesday is 30 cent oyster night, are you kidding? And they looked good - $3.60 a dozen? I'll be back Tuesday for serious hoisting. I found the reco here yesterday, thanks, hounds.

re: twinwillow
gav and twin, thanks for the heads up caution about the oysters at the Shack. It sounded to good to be true, I'm willing to pay up for fresh, fresh. The oysters I spied at Nates last night at a nearby table looked good...opinions? I had a nice dinner at Nates and they gave me an Abita beer glass to keep after only a small amount of shameless groveling because I brought so little kitchen gear with me to Texas.
