ABaC or Cinc Sentits with teenager in tow?

I am headed to Barcelona with my 13 year old daughter who is somewhat of a veteran of my dragging her around to gourmet spots so she is a good sport but nevertheless, a teenager! I want to have one gourmet dining experience beyond all of the tapas that I am looking forward to consuming .... and have narrowed it down to either ABaC or Cinc Sentits. I have a perception of ABaC being a bit more "out there" and adventurous but don't know if that is true? So I am leaning toward Cinc Sentits since I have read they speak good English and have 2 tasting menus to choose from. Please advise!!

  1. I have not been to Abac since they moved from Born to the new hotel in Tibidado. Xavier Pellicier and the old Abac was one of the two or three best restaurant in Barcelona: the best ingredients, exact cooking, modern and not molecular but labled 'conservative' for Barcelona. The current chef is much more molecular. I did make it up there last year to take a look at the hotel; gorgeous space with designer everything; somewhat out of the way.
Cinc Sentits is a safe choice, less expensive, excellent food and less molecular than the current Abac; the service is correct, informal and friendly with a family feel. Just don't expect lots of bells and whistle as the ambience is very low key and the decor simple.
English is not a problem with most restaurants in Barcelona though Maria of Cinc Sentits speaks it perfectly. And thank you for spelling the restaurant's name correctly, rare for this board.

Thank you PBSF - based on your description and what i have read on this board I think Cinc Sentits will be just right for us. I only wish I had another week (and a lot more dollars!) to enjoy the fabulous food that Barcelona has to offer. Hopefully it is only the first of many trips there.

I just wanted to report that we had a fabulous dinner at Cinc Sentits. The food, wine, service were all excellent and my daughter enjoyed everything. Thanks for the recommendation.

Great that you and your daughter enjoyed Cinc Sentits. Hope the rest of your eating in Barcelona was good.
