My field agent in Stevenson Ranch sent me an article from the local paper reporting that the BBQ Club in Santa Clarita closed its doors on December 17. According to the owner he could not sustain enough business, he is quoted as saying "With a proliferation of large chain restaurants in the Valley, it's difficult for a place like the BBQ Club to make it."

'hounds may recall some positive reports about th BBQ Club on this board, where the 'Q was said to be quite tasty and there was live entertainment. I never made it out there myself to find out.

The article does also report that the owner said he will be opening a new BBQ Club in downtown L.A. Only 1,100 square feet and 20 tables, and no entertainment.

It might be prudent for 'hounds who work or frequent downtown L.A. to check out this joint when it opens, supposedly end of this month or early February. No specific location was cited.

I really loved the BBQ Club and was shocked to drive by and see it gone. It appears the spot will re-open as an asian restaurant. I am so sorry to see it go as there is nothing like it in Santa Clarita and there will definately be a void in the area for good BBQ and southern cooking.

Thanks for reporting that, Wayne. We went there quite often to see one of our favorite blues bands perform and eat their fantastic food (the baby backs were the best I have ever had, but everything was always delicious). I did not know that they were closing (last time I was there was for my birthday in October). Seemed to me they were always busy, but then again, we usually went when Fat Danny was playing. Sometimes we could not get a table if we did not make reservations (albeit it was a tiny space).
I believe that he also has (had?) a restaurant in the Los Angeles Athletic Club (see link below). Wonder if that is still there.
I am extremely sad to see it close. That was one place where you felt at home and the food was fantastic. I have to call my mom right now and let her know...

Yeah, breaks my heart, good 'Q and blues, that was going to be an option for us to dine when visiting my sister in that neck of the woods, pickens in that area are pretty slim.

You said it. My mom is doubly broken hearted... two of her faves are closing - Matterhorn Chef and now BBQ Club. I called and gave her the bad news about both after I read your post this morning. She is devastated! She knows the owner of the Matterhorn (has been going for years) and he always gives her a warm welcome. She was thinking maybe he decided to go back to the old country.
