DAMASCUS eats

I'm looking for some great food in Damascus. A combination of cheap eats and maybe a few nicer places :) I'm there for 3 months this summer.
also, as much as I love syrian/lebanese food I do tire of it sometimes..are there other cuisines that are decent? I love Turkish and Persian, especially ,but maybe I'll also crave some European food sometimes.
maybe there is indian/sri-lankan food with all the foreign workers?
I'll also be visiting Beirut, Aleppo, and stopping over in amman on my way out

My advice is to focus on Aleppo, rather than Damascus, for memorable cuisine outside the usual hummus/baba ghanouj/tabbouleh offerings. Summertime, especially early summer, is cherry season, and Aleppo is cherry country. Don't wait until the end of summer, when the cherries can run out, because the best thing to eat in Aleppo is the kebab al-krayz: meat kebabs glazed with a thick reduction of sour cherries. Last I saw, this dish is almost never available in Damascus, even though it's only a few hours away from Aleppo. It's worth the trip.

Wish I could help more. The food in Syria is supposed to be delicious, but as an Israeli citizen I probably won't be visiting anytime soon.
