Any great restaurants near the Waldorf?
Entertaining some friends from out of town who are very knowledgeable and discerning about food and restaurants. We have one night to go out and I'd like to take them somewhere really great along the lines of Balaboosta or Recette. But it will be late and if there's something good in that area, that would be preferable. I just can't think of anything that compares around there — somewhere cool, maybe on the new side, innovative, unique. Any ideas? Thanks so much.

Second Pampano and Seasonal; v different, but both v good. One other, quite old and seldom mentioned in this space, is the Four Seasons--if the menu & atmosphere are too classic, at least stop by for a drink; the room alone is worth the stop.

It's nothing like Recette, but Ma Peche is within walking distance and fits the bill for new, innovative and unique. It's open untill midnight every night.
Other solid restaurant that isn't new: Pampano (modern, upscale Mexican; closes 9:30 Sunday, later other days).
