Road trip I-20 Dallas to Pecos next week

  • 3

Hi, Chowhounds!

My dad and I are driving from Dallas to New Mexico, on I-20. We're looking for the best breakfast spots, BBQ, Southern, & Tex-Mex. Dives, holes-in-the-wall, diners are just fine!

I used to live in Houston and haven't travelled much west of Dallas, so any help y'all can offer is very much appreciated. Thanks!

  1. We moved from Midland to Plano about 10 years ago but one of our favorite places when we lived there was KD's Bar-B-Q located just off the Interstate on the Garden City Highway.

    1. Although I haven't been there for a while, I've driven considerably out of my way to go to La Bodega Mexican Restaurant in Midland.

They have some of the best chiles rellenos I've ever tasted, at least north of the border. They stuff them with picadillo and they're wonderful.

Although as I said, it's been a while since I've been up that way, and if you're interested in going there, it's probably worth a phone call first to see if they're still making that particular type of chiles rellenos.

      1. Thanks for the tips for our road trip. We ended up eating at Rosa's Cafe in Midland. It was good and the staff is very friendly.

I can also recommend the Commemorative Airforce Museum at the airport -- fascinating place!
