Want a funky, different NYC restaurant for my 15th bday!

At the end of April for my 15th birthday I'm taking about 12 of my friends out for dinner. The price shouldn't be too cheap.. but not extremely expensive. I want a restaurant with a funky vibe, what I mean is cool dishes (maybe even cool desserts) cool scenery, and in a good district in Manhattan. Also good for groups and not too mature.. so please comment and give me ideas! thanks!

"Extremely expensive" means different things to different people. Give us an idea of how much you'd be spending per person, including tax & tip (I guess we don't have to include wine given your age)

are you an uptown 15 or a downtown 15? this is key.

Is Spice restaurant still over in the meatpacking? that might be a good choice. It's the restaurant above some club (maybe called Highline or something?)

It's part of the mini-chain of thai restaurants, but is definitely funky, and prices are very good.

don't know why it didn't occur to me earlier, but what about Ippudo? if you can stop by mid-day, you can reserve a table for dinner. walk in, leave your name, party size and the hour that you plan to return, and they'll have your table (close to) ready when your party arrives. it's definitely funky.

not sure if the large booths can fit 12. you could call and ask.

Maybe Cafe Mogador can work. It's in the East Village, a neighborhood with a lot of young people.
