Affordable places we can dress up at?

The girl I'm dating wants to dress up classy for tonight, but I can't find a place to take her that isn't $100+ per person. I'm a college student so $50 or less for dinner would be ideal - keep in mind we split dishes often though. I have tickets to Groundlings after dinner (which we will be going to dressed up, heh) so something in the West Hollywood area would work, or Downtown as well because we're coming from USC.

Are there any restaurants where we wouldn't be out of place being dressed up but still keep it affordable? ($10-15 per entree would be ideal, maybe a little more if the portions are huge though.)

If you're coming from downtown the old school Frere Taix is fun and in your price range and you won't feel dorky being dressed up there. They have a great winelist and while the food isn't haute gourmet, it's pretty good.

Riviera in DTLA? Easily doable if you're splitting plates.

Roy's downtown has a prix fixe menu that I have always enjoyed.

Are you still planning to get "dressed up" for Lala's?

Yep. I don't think it would be wierd. We'd just look like we came from a classy event.

I think if the board contributors had known that plan would work for you it would have made recommending places a whole lot easier...

I've seen many at Tommy's on Rampart in Tuxes and formal wear.

I would need an "8 ply head to toe body napkin" if I was eating at Tommy's in a tux...

Bouchon in B .H. has a 45 dollar 3 course menu. (I'm assuming you meant 50 per person). And it fits your dress up requirments.

Trojans rule! Heh . . . I love going to LA Market at LA Live. You wouldn't be amiss dressed up or dressed down. It's close to campus. Though I checked its within the price range you say because I never order "mains". I guess like people suggested--prix fixe is where you should follow. I just try to make do with the menus with my student budget--but I guess that isn't cool if you are taking your girlfriend out. I figure you can go dressed up anywhere so I'd go to M Cafe or Mozza if you are at Groundlings. Meson G was perfect but they closed.
