Trendy, fun, place to go to dinner with my parents!

My parents are coming in town and I need to make dinner plans. They like trendy, fun, restaurants, with good cocktails, and a great wine list is a must! Food must be amazing, and atmosphere cannot be stuffy!

  1. Also..price isnt really and issue but i'm not looking to go to $300/person restaurants Thanks!

    1. WD-50. One of the best, most creative cocktail programs of any restaurant. Certainly trendy and fun, and the furthest thing from stuffy. Wine list is a bit all over the map but there are some really good finds in there (at typical restaurant prices, of course... but that'd be the case anywhere...)

Expensive, for sure, but not $300/person expensive.

I can't get a dinner reservation a minetta..really been wanting to go there...Scarpetta is def on the list for Friday..any other?

          1. re: Frashy

The Breslin or the Spotted Pig. Both definitely meet the trendy and fun requirement. Total opposite of stuffy, good food and cocktails.

We want to get dressed up though so something maybe less causal?

              1. re: Frashy

Well, wd-50 is pretty casual too. You will definitely be overdressed if you dress up there.

Oh Ok...well I have Scarpetta for Friday..I think that seems more on the line for what I'm looking for..Thanks for the heads up! have you ever been to MPD? Is that too meatpacking intense? Waht about the Lion? Someone recommended it to me but all the reviews say the food isnt good?

I haven't been to the Lion and can't vouch for the food, but fwiw Eater says the crowd is scorching hot:

I wouldn't say they'd be overdressed at WD - I usually see a good mix of people there, especially on the weekends. Some jeans & tees, some suits, neighborhood types and models (though I suppose LES neighborhood types ARE models, these days...) - it's the kind of place I think you'd be comfortable as dressed up/down as you are.

Scarpetta (although there's no dress code there, either) does "feel" a bit fancier. Not sure about the cocktails there, though. I would guess they're solid if nothing remarkable.

Beauty & Essex was a good suggestion, too - they're trendy with a capital-T. And Santos' food is always solid. The cocktails are excellent as well

I'd say nix The Lion. Haven't been but haven't read a single good review. More a place for people who aren't concerned with food at all, from what I gather. Enough joints in town with good food AND hip setting to not bother with them.

Sounds like you want to stay within the Meatpacking District. C&S was fine - great wine list - beautiful space - but I don't think I'd jump out and call it "trendy" or "fun" with "amazing food."

No I dont have to stay in meatpacking I was just curious. Hurricane club is a fun atmosphere thanks for the suggesition
