Sagrantino wines in Toronto?

cshamess Mar 11, 2011 04:57 AM

Anyone know where I can find wines made from Sagrantino grapes, either in a restaurant or private supplier, in the GTA? I've searched LCBO, including Summerhill and Queens Quay and no luck.

We're going to Umbria in June and want to sample beforehand what we will hopefully be drinking everyday!

you shoudnt have too much trouble finding sagrantino di montefalco at restaurants. italian restos, that is. zucca, l'unita, terroni, noce...i bet they all have sagrantino on their lists.

Enoteca Sociale had an 05 Sagrantino di Montefalco on their Enomatic. Their wines off the Enomatic are 1/2 price on Mondays and Tuesdays - it's a good deal!

Search the LCBO site using "Montefalco" as your search term, there are two wines from the DOCG in the system currently, both are blends of Sagrantino and other grapes, both are vintages, a Brogal that is widely available, and a Mura Sanacene where there may only be one bottle in a store in Woodbridge.

This is a tiny wine region, the whole production is 250 Acres, it's little wonder it's not easy to find.

Thanks for this bytepusher...I knew there must be something available...unfortunately, both of those are blends but I will give them a try...
