Wine bar with good food
Looking for a restaurant or wine bar open on Sunday to take a friend visiting from out of town later this month ....casual atmosphere, good food and wine list...Italian, American or French...westside, west hollywood or bev hills but will consider beaches or hollywood...ideas?

if you're willing to head over this way by the beach, don't forget Primitivo. great atmosphere particularly if you can snag a table on the back patio...and you can go for a stroll and soak up the funky Abbot Kinney vibe.

Not in your territory, yet Barbrix in Silver Lake is very good, and quasi-Italian, yet with other cuisines represented.

re: whatsfordinner
I haven't gone since a few months after it opened, but I remember it being incredibly loud, making it a very unpleasant place to go with friends - impossible to hear even over the table. Also, found the portions small for the prices, and the food not as good as somewhere like AOC...

Vinoteque on Melrose is solid and has good prices on their wines, too. Food is OK, but wine is more the draw, probably.
For better food, consider Gjelina, which is less wine bar and more restaurant. Reservations there may be tough for the evening at this point, but worth a try depending on your timing.

Venice Wines has good food, but small menu. The place on Main Street (name always escapes me) behind Peets in SM (Edgmar Center) also has good food. Otheroom on Abbot Kinney has great wines and great prices by the bottle, and you can bring in food from 3 Square. Primitivo is another idea.
