They are both excellent. I slightly prefer Chao.

I think they are both quite small but casual enough that I don't think kids would be a problem.

Haven't been to Chao in ages, but remember liking the food. We went with kids the last time and it wasn't a problem, but it was lunch on a saturday.

We go to Ayada with our kids a lot for dinner and they are very kid-friendly there. The staff is nice. The only problem i've encountered is that if your kids like their food v spicy (like ours) they sometimes tone down the spice when they see kids at the table. So now I make a point of insisting that our kids like it very very spicy.

From my experience, Chao Thai is better but I haven't eaten tons at both places.

However, my closet is bigger than Chao, so if space matters, Ayada has the advantage.
