West Hollywood/Beverly Hills Saturday Dinner - with Mom & MIL

My mother is visiting from NY and I'm planning dinner with my mother-in-law (who lives here) on Saturday night. My first idea was Comme Ca - but my VERY picky mom nixed it. She'd prefer "California-style" preferably where she could have fish & salad (she's a crazy health nut). MIL is less picky and is not as concerned about being overly healthy all the time - but no sushi. Thought about Hungry Cat, but fish isn't that appealing to me right now since I've been pregnant, and thought the menu would be too limiting to me.

Ideally would like to stay in West Hollywood/Beverly Hills area - and willing to go to Hollywood also. In terms of price point, would like to stay in the $20-under $30 range for entrees. Any ideas? I'm drawing a blank!

What about Mozza? You might have to sit at the bar, but that can entertaining. Have you ever tried Taste (very close by Comme Ca) on Melrose? I can't recall what the salad options are at Tasca, but I like it.

I have been to Taste and thought about it, but the last time I was there I had bad service (food was okay) so don't think I'm ready to go back yet. Mozza is a great suggestion; will try to get a reservation there. Thanks for the suggestions!

      Look at Lucques.

I had considered Lucques when thinking about places to recommend, but I was unsure if the OP's preferred budget would be achievable or not.

Fair point. The two fish dishes on the posted menu are $29 (market fish) and $31 (black cod), with the meat entrees all over $32. Chalk it up to the persistence of memory.

Funny - I picked Lucques for my first mother and MIL dinner! It worked beautifully, but I don't know that I would necessarily choose it for a "health nut".

Thanks again for the suggestions. I looked at Lucques menu and I think it's a little too much. I tried to get a reservation at Mozza - thinking there may be a cancelation, but no luck.

So, I think I'm just going to go to BLD (I always forget about this place). I think my picky mom will like the "construct your own dinner" where she can get salmon or tofu.

          Thanks again!!

Dan Tana's is always fun and the food is always good. Great white fish for mom. steak and peppers and chicken beckerman (dark meat) are great picks.

Looking at the menu, Dan Tana's seems like some sort of historical exhibit.

You could try (I haven't been) the brand new Fig and Olive on Melrose right by Lucques...

Their menu is on their website and although some entrees are over $30, there are plenty of dishes under. Plenty of fish, veggies, salads, etc:

EDIT: I didn't realize that they already are in NYC, but possibly it's a favorite of hers and the MIL and you can try something new.

Thanks for the reco...thought about Fig & Olives, but decided I would wait till I'm not pregnant anymore to go. There are too many yummy things on the menu I'd want to eat and can't right now.

Anyway, we went to BLD and it was perfect - both mom & MIL were very happy. They were very accommodating to my picky mom!
