District of Pi Pizza Truck

Anyone tried it? How is it? I know it's associated with a sit down restaurant in Penn Quarter.

  1. I haven't had it, but I've been extremely tempted by the smell as it's been parked outside of my office drumming up attention for the restaurant. Smells like really good stuff. Not sure when the restaurant will open. They're pretty early in the construction, it looks like. It'll be on the 900 block of F.

      The District of Pi restaurant is supposed to open 3.14 (a little math geek humor I guess), but I don't know if they'll make it.

        Yeah, I knew about that, but that gives them six days to build a kitchen, get in furniture, and oh yeah - do something about the dangling electrical cords.

          How can you get an oven hot enough in a truck?

            The Pupatella folks managed to impress a good number of Chowhounds with pizza made in their cart in Ballston (which I suspect has been retired since the storefront shop opened), but it wasn't the same style pizza that they do in the brick oven in the shop. The cart, as I recall, used an electric oven.

              Otherwise you'd need to tote a second cart to haul the coal.

    2. I hope their pizza isn't $4 per slice, like the other pizza truck I tried. It was decent, but overpriced.

        You have to buy a whole pie that is supposed to be enough for two.
