Bayou on Penn

What do we think about Bayou on Penn for my laid back hubby and hot spice loving son? It is hubby's birthday so casual rules, but we love good food and good times as well. Thoughts?

    We ate at Bayou last evening and had a great meal. I liked the vibe of the place, the Abita beers and a well-made Sazerac, and the BBQ shrimp po' boy.

      I ate there Sunday night (half price wine night!) and really enjoyed it. It is definitely laid back and the food is good. The gumbo had plenty of fresh, tasty shrimp, the shrimp and grits were excellent. The po-boys looked good. They had a jazz combo upstairs where we ate, and it was just right for dinner music. Service was great.

        Well, I wouldn't take a laid-back person anywhere near a restaurant or bar that has anything to do with New Orleans on Fat Tuesday, if today is indeed his birthday.

          Nope, his birthday is on the 22nd. I was just thinking I needed to make reservations some where.
