Please clue me in on the fascination with Five Guys. People make it seem like it's a big deal but this might as well be announcing Burger King is coming to Cortland Manor. From their website:

"Five Guys expands to over 750 locations in over 40 states and 4 Canadian provinces."

There are at least 3 recent threads - opening in Pelham, opened in Pelham, opening in White Plains - you'd think Thomas Keller was opening a French Laundry here!

I think it's opening in May. Strange location, a storefront in a strip mall (that section, anyway). And just across the parking lot from McDonalds. I'm guessing the Nathans owners (a few stores away) aren't thrilled, either.

This will be a similar location to the one in Nanuet (strip mall on Rte. 59 that also has a McDonald's and Chili's, a few doors down on the strip from Bon Chon).

A lot of the ones that I have been to have been in similar locations. Like Elisa515 mentioned, the one in Nanuet is in a similar type location.

I do find their "A child may have an allergy and lives in a 500 mile radius of this location" peanut warning hilarious. Political correctness at its most annoying.......

At least they closed the kid's haircut place next door to the new Cortlandt location. They would have complained about the lost business.

So, this location has still not opened. Anyone know what's going on with it?

Get set for some hockey pucks with good french fries. Burgers are only available very well done and greasy. They give it to you with an over-stuffed bag of really good french fries.

Let me know what you think after they open.

I think the fries are a soggy travesty, just like their overcooked and greasy, but flavorless, burgers. I tried them several times and was not impressed.

But did you try them specifically at this particular location?????

No, I have tried them several times in Pelham, and in Queens. I've been hoping I would get a burger that impressed me, but not so far.

Five Guys is more cookie cutter than than McD! Franchisees have no choice of what to put on the menu other than the standard corporate set items. Every kitchen is setup the same. The ingredients are trucked in from the same sources. All the cooks are trained identically. Every burger is made well-done. No shakes or ice cream. No desserts. Peanuts cannot leave the premise.

                Hi all,

Just a quick reminder to please try to keep the focus here on local chow. It's fine to talk about the opening of this specific branch of Five Guys, and it's fine (actually, it's welcomed) to compare Five Guys to other nearby places, but a general discussion of Five Guys would go over on the Chains board. Thanks!

Went to the new 5 Guys today for lunch. It was fairly crowded, but being the second day not as bad as I thought it

My burger was fine, but what was really unique here was the soda machines. There is a very large LCD panel on the front where you select your drink. Then a secondary menu comes up where you can select a flavor variation. I thoroughly enjoyed my lime diet coke!

They don't have that at the two Five Guys near me (Poughkeepsie and Fishkill)...that sounds very cool!

It is a coke freestyle machine. I am kinda obsessed with them. So many variations and flavors to choose from.

Thanks so much for the tip about ordering online. My son and I went to the Cortlandt Town Center location today (yes! I'm actually writing about the restaurant in the thread!). Expecting to arrive at about 2 p.m., my son set up a mobile online account on his Blackberry (no app for Blackberry) while I drove, and he ordered our meal.

When we arrived at the place, the line was out the door and stayed that way the whole time we were there. A helpful employee at the door told us to go directly to the pickup area, since we'd already ordered. We just had to wait for them to put completely fresh fries in the bag, burgers were fresh, and we were seated before the people at the register when we arrived had received their food.

Son was especially pleased there was malt vinegar available for his fries (we shared a "regular" which was more than plenty), and he loved being able to get Peach Fanta to drink. I asked about the Coke flavors, but he said the number of choices was overwhelming.

The burgers were fine--not what one gets at a great pub burger place, but hot and juicy and fresh nonetheless. Loved having fresh tomato, grilled mushrooms and grilled onions on my hamburger; son had jalapenos, tomato, and mushrooms on his bacon cheeseburger.

We hadn't been to the Cortlandt Town Center in ages. We ended buying a game at the GameStop next door and also a book at Barnes & Noble. Nice location!

perfect review elisa515. i want to go to a 5G now and get my usual bacon, lettuce, tomato, fried onions, raw onions, cheese, ketchup & mustard! I like them better then elevation. and the peanuts rock!

I'm pretty sure that the flavor choices for Coke are the same as flavor choices for the other drinks. Glad you liked the Cortlandt Town Center. I have a feeling that between Five Guys and the soon to open DSW (next to B&N), it will be bringing in a lot of people who would not normally shop there.

I visited this location last night. I placed my order via android phone app, when I arrived shortly after my burgers where just being finished up, they wait until you get there to cook the fries for freshness, I was handed my drink cup, filled my drink and then received my order and was on my way. Very fast service. The quality was the same i've had at any other 5 guys, loved it lol. There was also a door guy who opened and held the door and greeted me when I entered and wished me a good night when I left. Nice touch. A lot of employees on hand too for 9:30pm

I think the novelty has worn off. I was in the area on Saturday at noon and there was no line and plenty of tables.
