looking for chef driven restaurants with great bars
hope you can suggest a bunch of places with fantastic food and a great bar. examples would be barbuto, minetta tavern, fedora. eat out a lot, new to the city, and need to start making a list of potential new places to go. any part of the city is fine.
WD-50 is, for me, the standard-bearer as far as restaurant bars go. Jafrul and Tona, the mixologists (or whatever they call them nowadays) are the bar equivalent of Wylie in the kitchen. Stunning seasonal stuff, on the level of any of the fancy modern cocktail dens (a la PDT, Death & Co, Mayahuel, Apotheke, etc...)
Vandaag is quickly moving up the ranks as well - very interesting cocktails, very interesting and well-curated beer list that goes spectacularly with the food. If you're a fan of gin or genever, a great choice with great food.
#3 would be the Tavern Room at Gramercy Tavern. There's a smoked iced tea / scotch highball with black mint that's one of my all-time favorites. Don't know if it's still on the menu, though, been awhile since I've been.

Any of April Bloomfield's places. I'm lukewarm on the John Dory, but Sasha Petraske's cocktails are great.
I also like the cocktail programs at Freemans, Peels, Public, and the Fatty Crew guys (Fatty 'Cue, Fatty Crab, etc.).
