I'm moving to Erie, PA soon & I know very little about the place.

Any restaurants/fast food/diners recommended?
Also which dishes should I try from those places

Thanks!

  1. Fairly new to the area myself...
Lot of chains, but that fortunately includes chik-fil-a.
One consistently good restaurant with good prices is Rosa's Legacy, food is dominican, pretty much anything on the menu is good.
Wings are pretty solid in erie, try eli's or odi's 12
Khao Thai is not bad if you're in the mood for thai.
Haven't had luck with any italian food and the pizza is pretty terrible.
Heard good things about three b's for barbecue, but have yet to try it.
If you want anything higher end, save you money and go to cleveland, From my observations the upscale restaurants in Erie are really not very good and extremely overpriced.

Thanks for the tips. I'll definitely try Rosa' Legacy and Khao Thai

I heard the Whole Foods Coop Cafe is good for some vegetarian food? Anyone tried?

        Dnanana - Try Lucchetti's (www.lucchettispizza.com/). 25 years ago, I loved this pizza.

      2. Late to the party as usual, but I figured I would add my two cents. I agree with Dnanana, most of the "fine dining" in Erie is anything but. Overpriced and subpar come to mind. The exception to this is Colao's Italian Ristorante, their food is consistently amazing and their nightly specials have never disappointed (mushroom ravioli to. die. for.). Bertrand's is also pretty good, although I once ordered the halibut that was on special and was disappointed. Other than that, they're pretty consistent.
As far as pizza, Papa Joe's is the best, Mediterranian and buffalo wing pizza are two of my favorites, along with the super pink. South Gate (either east or west) is also great. Lucchetti's is an old-time Erie staple, but it just doesn't suit my personal taste.
As far as diner, there is only one that I'd recommend, and that's the Zodiac. Their food is fantastic and their daily specials are usually unique and well-priced. If the special doesn't strike my fancy, then I'll always fall back on the Southern Cross, which I would bet my firstborn child is the only true hangover cure. It's an ultra casual, retro atmosphere... everything a diner should be. It seems everyone in Erie insists that Dominick's is the place to be, specifically their meatball omelette, but I think it's the beer talking. It was good, but it wasn't GOOD. It didn't live up to the hype. Panos is also not bad, but the place always seems slightly dirty to me, and not in a charming way.
Fast food is nothing special, although we recently aquired a Five Guys and Fries which is pretty much fantastic. In the summer, you have to make at least one trip to Sara's on the peninsula. Yeah, it's a tourist trap. Yeah, their food isn't super special. But if nothing else, try the black raspberry milkshake. You can thank me later :)
I hope you're acclimating to life here in Erie and preparing yourself for the long cold winter ahead!
