Japanese noodles

I'll go to the city if I have to, but is anyone doing good Japanese noodles with fresh soba and udon noodles in Fairfield County or Westchester? There used to be a Japanese chef with a little stand in Cos Cob, but he seems to have gone/or gone back to Japan ....

  1. Hmmm... I dunno about "fresh" (do you mean homemade noodles?) but I really like the stir-fried udon at J. Fuji in Bethel, CT. Probably a little far for you to go... but maybe not? The restaurant itself is sorely lacking in atmosphere... but the food is consistently good, the udon is a favorite, and the sushi is fresh and tasty. We get takeout from there a lot. My very favorite dish there is the J. Fuji Salmon in Black Bean Sauce. LOVE IT.

    <whispering now, because this is, after all the Southern New England board... so this will probably get zapped> Sushi Mike's in Dobb's Ferry also does a great stir-fried udon. It was where I first fell in love with the dish a few years ago. It's a little too far for us to drive on a regular basis, but we've found J. Fuji's to be a more-than-acceptable stand in when the craving strikes.
