Oaxaca cheese

neighborguy Mar 7, 2011 04:21 PM

It feels like another Mexican night at my house is in the works and this time instead of getting the supermarket shredded bagged cheese I'll go for more authentic. Can anyone direct me to the crumbly Mexican cheese?

IIRC, I saw some oaxaca cheese in the fridge at Perola.

Oaxaca is stringy, not crumbly. Think you want queso fresco that's almost feta-like in consistency. Highland Farms usually carries a selection of Mexican cheeses.

Thanks Kagemusha, I was about ready to say the same. Oaxaca is more like a mozzarella/fresh cheese that is stringy...

          that is correct.

the Highland Farm located on Rutherford Road carries Oaxaca as well as Queso Fresco.
