Recommendation wanted: UWS, "not too edgy," not too expensive

Hello all,

Looking for a restaurant recommendation on the Upper West Side (or close-by) for 5-person family dinner (including an 89 year old!). Nothing "too edgy", preferably in the Italian/French/American genre. For a price point, Dovetail is a bit expensive.

Many thanks!

Tame price points (though not cheap), 89 year old suitable (but not boring) and pretty good Italian

Celeste? Very cozy little Italian place, consistently great food, but quite popular and it doesn't take reservations. I usually go early-ish (pre-7pm) and don't have a problem being seated.

I love Celeste but I wouldn't take my 89 yr old grand ma there. It's really cramped and noisy and sometimes you just don't know about the wait. No rezzies make it an issue too.

          Might also consider Ouest

            Second Ouest.

            Gennaro is also good.

Thanks! Telepan is a smidgen on the expensive side, but well-suited for this kind of meal.

                Welcoming other thoughts as well!

Bar Boulud or PJ Clarke's (cost factor).
