Best Thing I Ate All Week, Feb 27 - March 5

I thought last week was fun -- reading what everyone wrote about the best thing they had the week before. Maybe let's keep this going?
This week was easy for me...the petite filet mignon at Fleming's at the Summit in B'ham (http://www.flemingssteakhouse.com/)
Although I usually avoid chain restaurants, my husband and I dined here with another couple who had been wanting to try it, and we all really enjoyed it. The steak was *amazing* - perfectly cooked. It's not going to bump Doe's Eat Place off the top of my ladder of steak greatness, but it really was the best thing I had all week.
What was the best thing you had all week?
Our best meal, in the Chowhound Central South, was at Country's Barbecue on Zelda Road in Montgomery. My chopped pork sandwich and baked beans were thoroughly enjoyed.

Maybe not the absolute BEST thing I ate all week, but I just this week realized that Jefferson's, my absolute favorite wing joint from Jacksonville, AL (right down the road from where I grew up), now has a location on Valleydale about 5 minutes from my house.
Went there to see if it was as good as Jacksonville, and OH MY GOD it brought me back to my teenage years. Deep fried appetizers, crispy (not greasy) wings, oysters a plenty, and obscenely cheap prices. I no longer have to drive the 70+ miles to J'Ville for my wing fix!
Closer to 31; in the Southlake shopping center (I think there used to be a Food World there?)
If you're coming from 65, it's just past Lowe's. Jefferson's is in the shopping center, right behind Popeye's - you can see the Popeye's from the road a lot more easily than the shopping center.

Duck breast over roasted sweet potatoes with a Grand Marnier sauce at Bon Ami in Jackson.

Ate at Galvez in New Orleans Saturday night. Contrary to almost every review I have seen about the place, our experience was wonderful.
Almost all the tapas looked good, so we just told the waitress to pick out 6 of them for us. Later we had 4 more. I can't think of a single thing that wasn't pretty damn good!
We tried everything on the tapas menu:
except for the sherried spinach and the chicken with garlic sauce. Some of our party claimed that the calamari was the best they had ever had; my favorite was the clams and mussels in marinara- wonderful!
True to it's reviews, the place was nearly empty so we were able to have a window seat overlooking the river- certainly one of the best views in New Orleans! I don't know why this place wasn't packed with all of the crowds in New Orleans the weekend before Fat Tuesday, but it wasn't and that made it even more wonderful.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that a couple of pitchers of Sangria made it better still- it was available in red and white...

My favorite that week was homemade: seafood gumbo for a Mardi Gras gathering, with a homemade stock of roe crabs plus royal red shrimp shells and cleaned heads, and a dark-chocolate colored roux.
I also had a great meal last night, but it's not in time period listed below, so I won't mention the soup dumplings and braised pork belly that I had at Chen's in Hoover.
A reminder that this Central South board is narrowly focused on the discussion of restaurants in the covered region, so replies should be about restaurant meals in Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, and Louisiana; restuarant meals elsewhere and home-cooked meals are off topic for this board, and may be removed.
