Need updated suggestions

Haven't been to the City for a couple of years. Will be there early May. Need suggestions for birthday dinner, some lunches a few other dinners. We are foodies, but don't need or want frou-frou, self-impressed venues. Great food, service, pleasant surroundings--moderate prices.
Will be staying midtown, on west side. A cab ride away is fine. Thanks.

No steakhouses, nothing super spicy--but, do like ethnic. Would prefer ability to make reservation, don't like long waits. Birthday dinner on Thurs. In city Wed-Sun pm. Would like some pre-theater suggestions, too. Thanks.

$75 for birthday, otherwise $50--good eats kind of places.
