It's Still Panning Out for the Best
Last night at Pann's. The best non-gourmet patty melt in Los Angeles. 2/3 of a lb of perfectly cooked medium rare beef that has enough meat juice running out of it to make gravy. Waffle and wings with a side of strawberry's and whipped cream. One piece of Sock it to Me cake with vanilla ice cream. One loosening of the belt by a couple of notches. One long satisfied sigh (and a determined return to a more sensible diet for the remainder of the week).
I'll say it. I love Pann's.

re: aizan
I am going to turn into a grumpy old man! A proper pattymelt needs to come with swiss cheese.
And Reality check! Next time you feel Pann's fried chicken is dry and lacking flavor go to Dinah's ;) OMG! and how do you make pancakes that bad?!

I eat a surprisingly large amount of Pann's fried chicken.
By which I mean: I order Pann's fried chicken surprisingly often, and when I order it, I eat a surprisingly large portion of that chicken.

re: mucho gordo
I am almost certain that the Pann's I posted about here is a one of kind. Maybe you are thinking of an unrelated place with a similar (or even the same name)?
ADD: Here is the history of Pann's from their website: http://www.panns.com/ourstory.htm

re: mucho gordo
Mucho Gordo, I think you are referring to Panos Charbroiler, a Greek fast food place. A quick Google search showed this as a single location restaurant.
The OP is referring to the venerable LA diner named Pann's located (also, a single location only) by LAX.

re: JAB
Too true. And the real beauty goes beyond the food and must include the fact that Pann's is a treasure. Something like a Frank Lloyd Wright house or work of art in the Louvre. It draws a cast of characters straight out of the United Nations. Yes, I love the googie architecture. But I also love the people who work there and the way all of LA seems to gather there in a true show of the power of the rainbow...every color and creed, enjoying one of the last of a rapidly dying breed. My worry is for the future. But I will continue to enjoy it in the present as often as I can...
