Can anyone tell me where I can find malasadas/malassadas (a Portuguese fried dessert) in Toronto? Thanks!

my favourite so far is brazil bakery on dundas near brock. they only make them once or twice a week (saturday at least) and are good chewy, not too greasy, have a nice hint of lemon... and just plain old delicious. a go to NA donut replacement for sure.

if you use the search function you may find more suggestions.

Venezia Bakery sometimes has them, they are on ossington between queen and dundas. Ask the nice lady when they bake them as it's not always there. They're not the best- but they will do in a pinch.

Lunamichelle- the malasada style you describe is not the traditional portuguese (azorean) style, there is no custard in authentic malasadas

I too, am looking for these!!! I had the BEST malasadas (round fried dough, coated in sugar with custard fillings - chocolate was the best!) while in Hawaii two years ago. Alas, after reading some posts on the Canada boards, it seems that these beauties will remain in Hawaii ... *sob* It will be a long time before we can afford to go back, so I'd be happy with something even remotely similar here .... Anyone??
