Downtown recommendations for a part of 8 friday night (4 are kids but can handle a nice resto)

we are east coast/boston hounds looking for a fun night out. Any help is appreciated. The kids are in the 5-7 range and are well behaved out and fairly adventurous eaters. not necessarily looking to go ethnic, just a good san francisco experience. We will probably want to eat early. We are staying at the palace but have cars or can travel as exploring the city is great. Thanks!

Great Eastern, good Chinese food, big tables. Kids love fish.not just for eating.

Great Eastern is a great rec though I don't know if you're looking for cocktails.

Also, is this for tomorrow? Looked at Opentable & found the following for 5:30/6:00 - Bar Agricole, Foreign Cinema, Coco500, RN74, Thirsty Bear (casual but nice brewpub). Don't know what your budget is but RN74 can get pricey. 54 Mint (Italian) doesn't show an opening, but try calling them.

Went with my 10 yr old at 5:45 on a Saturday in Dec. & place didn't fill up until 6:45 or so. I don't see anything wrong with taking well behaved kids there. Unless you are referring to menu...dd loved her quail app. & beignet dessert. DH & I didn't exactly love our $18 wines with stingy pours.
